My Ultrasound

I just wanted to fill you all in on more of the details of Tuesday's ultrasound :)

We arrived around 2:15pm at the ultrasound clinic, and excruciatingly waited for 45 minutes, until the ultrasound tech came and got us. I was very happy to see that it was the sweet lady that had done my last ultrasound!! It was nice to know that she knew everything that was going on, and knew how anxious we were about the situation.

After she gooped-up my tummy, we could see the baby facing us, and she pointed out his features to us all (my sister-in-law Miriam got to come with us)...and then we all saw Micah doing that "baby sucking" thing with his mouth...it was SO cute! Then, the lady just simply stated that the placenta is out of the way, and not an issue! Jonathan said something like, "Sweet", and she went on to do baby measurements.

WHAT!?? That's IT!? How did she know so fast? How far is the placenta away from the cervix? Shouldn't she do a V-Ultrasound to make sure before she gives me false hope? All this agony for 7 weeks, and no explanation for why I should be all-of-the-sudden fine!! I couldn't stand it any longer, and finally figured out a good way to inquire further....

"So, can I ask a question? How did you know so quickly just looking at the baby's head, that the placenta is out of the way?"
"Oh, I'll show you in a second....See, here is the baby's head facing us...he is facing your right hip, and on one side of him is the table you're laying on, and on the other side of him is this black mass that is your placenta. The edge of it ends right here (she pointed right to near his little ear), and his head is so far down in your pelvis, that there is no room for ANYTHING down there but baby....(she clicked on the edge of the black mass, and measured down to my cervix)...and its about 9cm away from your cervix!"

I just stared at the screen, trying to comprehend what she had just told me. It was obviously there, on the screen, but making myself believe it was a different story :) I was so ready to be told that I had to have a c-section. I knew that a miracle could happen, and I wanted it to SO badly, but I just wanted to be ok with whatever God's will was for this baby's birth, and not set myself up for disappointment. We had been praying for there to be a distance of 5cm, but this!! This is CRAZY!

In 10 weeks, when I had gone from a small pooch at 18 weeks to looking very pregnant at 28 weeks, the placenta hadn't moved at all...except a little closer to the cervix. NOW, we are seeing that after only 7 weeks (your uterus only usually grows 1cm a week), it has "moved" more than 8cm!!! By the way...placentas don't move. Just depending on your uterus growing, they can be pulled any direction, but usually it is "up". I am pretty sure, that normal placentas can't just move 8-9cm in 7 weeks :) I suppose it COULD happen, but the likelihood is not very high.

I am so excited to be part of a miracle! God sure is good to us. I know that if it had been only 2 or 3cm away, I would have still been so nervous and anxious going into labor and birthing the baby...any slight bit of blood or pain, and I would be so paranoid! Plus, that would mean we would need to get to the hospital immediately when labor started so they could make sure they have my blood type on hand, and the staff prepared for an emergency...rather than stay at home like my midwife and doctors want me to, until I am in very active labor. Now, I can just close my eyes, and know that this is the Lord's will and plan, that we have another VBAC...that His plan doesn't involve scheduling a major surgery...yay!!!!!

Anyhow, I just wanted to let you all in on my recent shock and joy! I am so amazed at what prayers can do :) Thanks to ALL of you again, for thinking of us, and praying for the ultrasound to go well...it did!! :) I cannot stop smiling!
